Patchy floodlighting including some areas of complete darkness, notably the clock-tower.
Solution
The dark areas had to be lit and this was done by 'painting' the areas with light. Using a powerful handheld flashgun as a paintbrush an assistant directed the light at the appropriate areas. Using a Silvestri 4x5 fitted with a 90mm lens and a self-cocking shutter allowed multiple exposures without touching the camera and running the risk of camera shake. In addition a wireless radio link was used for the flash control and to monitor the process we used instant film.
