We were commissioned by the main contractors (HMC) to carry out regular site progress photography. Normal ground photography would have been totally inadequate to deal with such a large scale project and we therefore resorted to using a 35 M. “cherry picker” for low level detail photography and aerial photography at around 1200 feet was used to give a wider overview of the work.
Issues
The Westlink is a by-pass running to the west of Belfast City Centre and links the M1 & M2 Motorways. Because of traffic congestion it had to be updated and the main problem for the contractors was how to carry out the construction of three flyovers and the addition of an extra lane each way while not rendering the road impassable and literally bringing half of the province to a standstill.
